Description Benjamin Lee 2009-10-20 05:27:18 UTC
After I upgraded from sys-apps/lm_sensors-2.10.8 to sys-apps/lm_sensors-3.0.3, wmalms is broken:

blee@supra.b1c1l1 ~ $ ldd /usr/bin/wmalms | grep "not found"
        libsensors.so.3 => not found

but wmalms won't build against the new libsensors:

blee@supra.b1c1l1 ~ $ ls -l /usr/lib/libsensors.so*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root    15 2009-10-16 16:41 /usr/lib/libsensors.so -> libsensors.so.4
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root    19 2009-10-16 16:41 /usr/lib/libsensors.so.4 -> libsensors.so.4.0.2
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 50644 2009-10-16 16:41 /usr/lib/libsensors.so.4.0.2

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge =sys-apps/lm_sensors-3.0.3
2. emerge x11-plugins/wmalms

Actual Results:
checking for sensors_get_feature in -lsensors... no
Sorry, it appears that lm_sensors package is missing
Please, obtain the package from
    http://www.netroedge.com/~lm78/download.html

Expected Results:
The software should have built successfully.

My guess is that it was never ported -
last release date was 2 Feb 2004,
so if upstream doesn't wake up,
a sure candidate for package.mask and removal.
Comment 3 Thilo Bangert (RETIRED) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-10-27 08:51:00 UTC
i have restricted the existing wmalms ebuilds to <lm_sensors-3.
Comment 4 Michele Noberasco (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-01-19 10:38:50 UTC
Since package is so old (and nowadays unmaintained), restriction to <lm_sensors-3 is more than enough to fix this bug imo.
Comment 5 Thilo Bangert (RETIRED) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-01-19 10:52:20 UTC
its not FIXED. we can't stable lm_sensors-3.x if there are stable packages depending on lower versions...

it'll have to be removed from the tree if nobody cares enough about it.
Comment 6 Michele Noberasco (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-03-11 13:46:38 UTC
Package is broken with newer lm_sensors, upstream is unresponsive. Package.masked pending removal.
Comment 7 Samuli Suominen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-03-11 14:18:30 UTC
How is this "FIXED" ? Keywords field should say PMASKED and resolution is "WONTFIX" *AFTER* it's been removed.
Comment 8 Jeremy Murphy 2010-05-06 01:49:07 UTC
Just out of curiosity, how long is it going to take to be removed? Stabilization of lm_sensors-3 seems to be held up by a bunch of obsolete utilities still hanging around.
Comment 9 Jeremy Murphy 2010-06-05 11:27:02 UTC
A month later... still wondering the same question... when is this package going to be removed?

Same answer :-P

Done.
