my laptop is thinkpad w500. Integrated video card uses x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel. Discreted video card uses open sourse driver. When using integrated video card, when resume from suspend, color of gnome is not correct. When using discreted video card, I can not resume from suspend. At that time, the screen is black, the Cap light blinking. I even can not input anything. In two video mode, I can resume from hibernate. I use gnome 2.26 and sys-power/hibernate-script-2.0-r1. hibernate-script is just a wrapper that initiates hibernate/suspend. What you described looks like a bug with core hibernate/suspend inside kernel.
