gawk and nawk are compatible AFAIK. Some applications rely on nawk but there is no ebuild for nawk. The solution from debian is to link gawk to nawk. May be we can go the same way? Or is there a better gentoo solution?

they are somewhat compatible (like saying "dash" and "bash" are compatible), but i'd rather not do this
