Distributed filesystem gluster needs patched Fuse. There is how to download patched version at http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/GlusterFS and how to install it. However USE flag for our Fuse would be probably the best solution. Patch and patched version of fuse can be find at http://ftp.zresearch.com/pub/gluster/glusterfs/fuse/ . How to compile and install it is well documented in gentoo doc. Btw at the moment i have problem to compile it on Hardened gentoo. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. wget http://ftp.zresearch.com/pub/gluster/glusterfs/fuse/fuse-2.7.4glfs11.tar.gz 2. tar zxvf fuse-2.7.4glfs11.tar.gz 3. cd fuse-2.7.4glfs11.tar.gz 4. ./configure --prefix=/usr --enable-kernel-module 5. make install Actual Results: Making all in kernel make[1]: Entering directory `/root/fuse-2.7.4glfs11/kernel' make -C /usr/src/linux-2.6.28-hardened-r9 SUBDIRS=`pwd` modules make[2]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.28-hardened-r9' CC [M] /root/fuse-2.7.4glfs11/kernel/dev.o CC [M] /root/fuse-2.7.4glfs11/kernel/dir.o /root/fuse-2.7.4glfs11/kernel/dir.c: In function `fuse_permission': /root/fuse-2.7.4glfs11/kernel/dir.c:860: error: `LOOKUP_ACCESS' undeclared (first use in this function) /root/fuse-2.7.4glfs11/kernel/dir.c:860: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once /root/fuse-2.7.4glfs11/kernel/dir.c:860: error: for each function it appears in.) /root/fuse-2.7.4glfs11/kernel/dir.c: In function `fuse_put_link': /root/fuse-2.7.4glfs11/kernel/dir.c:976: warning: passing arg 1 of `free_link' discards qualifiers from pointer target type /root/fuse-2.7.4glfs11/kernel/dir.c: At top level: /root/fuse-2.7.4glfs11/kernel/dir.c:1331: warning: initialization from incompatible pointer type /root/fuse-2.7.4glfs11/kernel/dir.c:1350: warning: initialization from incompatible pointer type make[3]: *** [/root/fuse-2.7.4glfs11/kernel/dir.o] Error 1 make[2]: *** [_module_/root/fuse-2.7.4glfs11/kernel] Error 2 make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.28-hardened-r9' make[1]: *** [all-spec] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/root/fuse-2.7.4glfs11/kernel' make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 Expected Results: compilation w/o any problems. hmm well only thing that this patch doing is adding ~O_DIRECT to fuse filesystems =) so it may be added but its not mandatory
Adding kernel-misc@gentoo.org since fuse is their stuff
let me repeat again that this isn't _NECESSARY_ for fuse...
(In reply to comment #3) > let me repeat again that this isn't _NECESSARY_ for fuse... > Regarding Gentoo doc, it is necessary for Gluster. Regarding my test, gluster hang on Gentoo. The only thing i do not have in line with Gentoo guide is patched Fuse. I did try Gluster on 4 hardened servers with the same result. But of you believe, that patch is useless, then ok.
Could you please give us your configuration and possibly tell me how it hangs? I tested gluster 2 since the early rc and never had such problem with stock fuse.
There's already a patch for it: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=265935 .... but nobody seems to be including it :-(
I'm closing this because I don't think it's an issue anymore with the latest glusterfs and fuse packages in the tree since fuse-2.8 removed the out-of-tree fuse module. Please reopen if it is.
