Description Alec Meyers 2009-10-06 18:49:47 UTC
nvidia-drivers wants me now to downgrade to very old version of glibc.

(Sorry, not sure which "Component" this should be filed into...)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. # emerge -av1 nvidia-drivers

Actual Results:
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies ... done!
[ebuild UD] sys-libs/glibc-2.5-r4 [2.10.1] USE="glibc-omitfp nptl%* nptlonly%* -build% -debug -glibc-compat20% (-hardened) (-multilib) -nls -profile (-selinux) (-gd%) (-vanilla%)" 16,182 kB
[ebuild R ] x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-185.18.31 USE="acpi gtk -custom-cflags (-multilib)" 0 kB

Expected Results:
nvidia-drivers works fine with the current glibc...

Comment 1 Luud Heck 2009-10-06 19:00:50 UTC
It is not just nvidia-drivers. It seems there is an issue with glibc no longer sporting the nptl use flag.

I hard masked everything older than sys-libs/glibc-2.6

echo "<sys-libs/glibc-2.6" >> /etc/portage/package.mask

And got this result:
emerge: there are no ebuilds built with USE flags to satisfy ">=sys-libs/glibc-2.3[nptl]".
!!! One of the following packages is required to complete your request:
- sys-libs/glibc-2.9_p20081201-r2 (Missing IUSE: nptl)
- sys-libs/glibc-2.8_p20080602-r1 (Missing IUSE: nptl)
- sys-libs/glibc-2.6.1 (Missing IUSE: nptl)
(dependency required by "x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-180.29" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "x11-base/xorg-drivers-1.6" [installed])
(dependency required by "x11-base/xorg-server-1.6.3.901-r2" [installed])
(dependency required by "x11-drivers/xf86-input-evdev-2.2.5" [installed])

It seems release management for this change is lacking a bit, or maybe it results from some other bug...
