While trying to get a server updated, I encountered this issue. I was getting baselayout upgraded to baselayout-2.0.0. After upgrading to udev-141, you are unable to emerge sys-apps/openrc-0.4.3-r3 or sys-block/tw_cli-9.5.2. Both will fail to install due to the collision with /usr/share/man.ecompress.dir, an empty file that udev-141 installs. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Upgrade a system to =sys-fs/udev-141 2. Upgrade baselayout to =sys-apps/baselayout-2.0.0. 3. Watch what happens as the upgrade of baselayout pulls openrc-0.4.3-r3 into the emerge. Actual Results: >>> Installing (2 of 2) sys-apps/openrc-0.4.3-r3 * checking 250 files for package collisions * This package will overwrite one or more files that may belong to other * packages (see list below). You can use a command such as `portageq * owners / <filename>` to identify the installed package that owns a * file. If portageq reports that only one package owns a file then do * NOT file a bug report. A bug report is only useful if it identifies at * least two or more packages that are known to install the same file(s). * If a collision occurs and you can not explain where the file came from * then you should simply ignore the collision since there is not enough * information to determine if a real problem exists. Please do NOT file * a bug report at http://bugs.gentoo.org unless you report exactly which * two packages install the same file(s). Once again, please do NOT file * a bug report unless you have completely understood the above message. * * Detected file collision(s): * * /usr/share/man.ecompress.dir * * Searching all installed packages for file collisions... * * Press Ctrl-C to Stop * * sys-fs/udev-141 * /usr/share/man.ecompress.dir * * Package 'sys-apps/openrc-0.4.3-r3' NOT merged due to file collisions. * If necessary, refer to your elog messages for the whole content of the * above message. >>> Failed to install sys-apps/openrc-0.4.3-r3, Log file: >>> '/var/tmp/portage/sys-apps/openrc-0.4.3-r3/temp/build.log' Expected Results: Finished it's install cleanly. This could have been done with one of the above packages if udev-141 didn't install an empty file there. emerge --info: Portage 2.1.6.13 (default/linux/amd64/2008.0, gcc-4.3.2, glibc-2.9_p20081201-r2, 2.6.30-gentoo-r5 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: Linux-2.6.30-gentoo-r5-x86_64-Dual-Core_AMD_Opteron-tm-_Processor_2212-with-glibc2.2.5 Timestamp of tree: Fri, 25 Sep 2009 16:30:02 +0000 app-shells/bash: 3.2_p17-r1 dev-java/java-config: 1.3.7, 2.1.6 dev-lang/python: 2.3.6-r3, 2.4.4-r6, 2.5.4-r3 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.0.1-r6 sys-apps/baselayout: 2.0.0 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.6-r2 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.61 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.5, 1.10.1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.18-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.4.1 sys-devel/libtool: 2.2.6a virtual/os-headers: 2.6.27-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon64 -pipe -mmmx -msse -msse2 -m3dnow -ffast-math -mfpmath=sse,387" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/lib64/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/X11/xkb" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/fonts/fonts.conf /etc/gconf /etc/gentoo-release /etc/sandbox.d /etc/terminfo /etc/udev/rules.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon64 -pipe -mmmx -msse -msse2 -m3dnow -ffast-math -mfpmath=sse,387" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="distlocks fixpackages parallel-fetch protect-owned sandbox sfperms strict unmerge-orphans userfetch" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://ftp.ucsb.edu/pub/mirrors/linux/gentoo/ http://ftp.ucsb.edu/pub/mirrors/linux/gentoo/ http://gentoo.cs.lewisu.edu/gentoo/ ftp://gentoo.cs.lewisu.edu/gentoo/ " LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1" MAKEOPTS="-j5" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_CONFIGROOT="/" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X acl acpi alsa amd64 apache2 apm audiofile avi berkdb browserplugin bzip2 cdr cli cracklib crypt cups divx4linux dri dvd dvdr exif flash fortran gdbm gif gpm gtk gtk2 iconv imagemagick ipv6 isdnlog java jpeg junit ming mmx modules mozcalendar mozilla mozsvg mozxmlterm mudflap multilib mysql mysqli ncurses nls nptl nptlonly openmp pam pcre perl png pppd python quicktime readline reflection samba sensord session sockets speex spl sse sse2 ssl sysfs tcpd theora tiff unicode usb videos wmf xinerama xorg zlib" ALSA_CARDS="ali5451 als4000 atiixp atiixp-modem bt87x ca0106 cmipci emu10k1x ens1370 ens1371 es1938 es1968 fm801 hda-intel intel8x0 intel8x0m maestro3 trident usb-audio via82xx via82xx-modem ymfpci" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mmap_emul mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" APACHE2_MODULES="actions alias auth_basic authn_alias authn_anon authn_dbm authn_default authn_file authz_dbm authz_default authz_groupfile authz_host authz_owner authz_user autoindex cache dav dav_fs dav_lock deflate dir disk_cache env expires ext_filter file_cache filter headers include info log_config logio mem_cache mime mime_magic negotiation rewrite setenvif speling status unique_id userdir usertrack vhost_alias" ELIBC="glibc" INPUT_DEVICES="keyboard mouse" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="radeon vesa" Unset: CPPFLAGS, CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, FFLAGS, INSTALL_MASK, LANG, LC_ALL, LINGUAS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS ======================================================================= Output segment of "equery files udev": <snip> /usr/share/doc/udev-141 /usr/share/doc/udev-141/ChangeLog /usr/share/doc/udev-141/ChangeLog.ecompress.file /usr/share/doc/udev-141/README /usr/share/doc/udev-141/README.ecompress.file /usr/share/doc/udev-141/README_volume_id /usr/share/doc/udev-141/README_volume_id.ecompress.file /usr/share/doc/udev-141/TODO /usr/share/doc/udev-141/TODO.ecompress.file /usr/share/doc/udev-141/html /usr/share/doc/udev-141/html/writing_udev_rules.html /usr/share/man /usr/share/man.ecompress.dir /usr/share/man/man7 /usr/share/man/man7/udev.7 /usr/share/man/man8 /usr/share/man/man8/ata_id.8 /usr/share/man/man8/cdrom_id.8 /usr/share/man/man8/create_floppy_devices.8 /usr/share/man/man8/edd_id.8 /usr/share/man/man8/path_id.8 /usr/share/man/man8/scsi_id.8 /usr/share/man/man8/udevadm.8 /usr/share/man/man8/udevd.8 /usr/share/man/man8/usb_id.8 /usr/share/man/man8/vol_id.8 ssrv ~ # Plus, after that, I need to see how I will be able to emerge the tw_cli package after that.
