Description Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2009-09-25 11:21:07 UTC
I am following:
http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/desktop/x/x11/libxcb-1.4-upgrade-guide.xml

And now, I am emerging broken packages with --jobs, the problem is the following:
...
Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No]
>>> Verifying ebuild manifests
>>> Starting parallel fetch
>>> Emerging (1 of 48) x11-proto/xproto-7.0.15
>>> Emerging (2 of 48) kde-base/kdelibs-3.5.10-r6 from unknown repo
>>> Emerging (3 of 48) media-gfx/imagemagick-6.5.2.9
>>> Emerging (4 of 48) x11-libs/libcompizconfig-0.8.2
>>> Emerging (5 of 48) dev-libs/poppler-qt3-0.10.7
>>> Emerging (6 of 48) media-libs/gst-plugins-bad-0.10.11
>>> Emerging (7 of 48) x11-plugins/compiz-plugins-main-0.8.2-r1
>>> Failed to emerge x11-plugins/compiz-plugins-main-0.8.2-r1, Log file:
>>>  '/var/tmp/portage/x11-plugins/compiz-plugins-main-0.8.2-r1/temp/build.log'
>>> Failed to emerge x11-libs/libcompizconfig-0.8.2, Log file:
>>>  '/var/tmp/portage/x11-libs/libcompizconfig-0.8.2/temp/build.log'
>>> Failed to emerge dev-libs/poppler-qt3-0.10.7, Log file:
>>>  '/var/tmp/portage/dev-libs/poppler-qt3-0.10.7/temp/build.log'
>>> Jobs: 0 of 48 complete, 3 running, 3 failed     Load avg: 6.49, 5.15, 2.79

All these failures are related with problems like:
checking for COMPIZ... configure: error: Package requirements (compiz) were not met:

Package xcb-xlib was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `xcb-xlib.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
Package 'xcb-xlib', required by 'X11', not found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables COMPIZ_CFLAGS
and COMPIZ_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

Maybe they should wait for libX11 to be rebuilt? :-/

Comment 2 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2009-09-25 11:48:04 UTC
The same occurs without --jobs

Maybe the solution would be to simply update the guide asking users to run
emerge -1avuDN libX11

before xcb-rebuilder :-/, this way libX11 and others like libXext (that breaks kdelibs compilation if not rebuilt) are fixed :-|
Comment 3 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2009-09-25 12:11:07 UTC
This is really caused by 286121
