As of Jun 10, 2009 I had net-print/cups-1.3.10-r2.
As of Jul 15, 2009 I had net-print/cups-1.3.11.

When I run "strace -s 256 -a 256 -x -v lpq" I see no closing "\n".

Fixed upstream, works for me in >=cups-1.4.4.
