Description Dan Johnson 2009-08-31 14:20:41 UTC
It's just a manpage, so not a huge deal but it might be indicative of a lower level collision (are they both providing the utility the manpage refers to?

Fails with this (rather standard) error:
>>> Installing (1 of 2) net-fs/openafs-1.4.11
 * This package will overwrite one or more files that may belong to other
 * packages (see list below). You can use a command such as `portageq
 * owners / <filename>` to identify the installed package that owns a
 * file. If portageq reports that only one package owns a file then do
 * NOT file a bug report. A bug report is only useful if it identifies at
 * least two or more packages that are known to install the same file(s).
 * If a collision occurs and you can not explain where the file came from
 * then you should simply ignore the collision since there is not enough
 * information to determine if a real problem exists. Please do NOT file
 * a bug report at http://bugs.gentoo.org unless you report exactly which
 * two packages install the same file(s). Once again, please do NOT file
 * a bug report unless you have completely understood the above message.
 *
 * Detected file collision(s):

 * Package 'net-fs/openafs-1.4.11' NOT merged due to file collisions. If
 * necessary, refer to your elog messages for the whole content of the

Comment 1 Mike Hammill 2009-09-02 15:52:38 UTC
I get the same error. A workaround is to use -doc for openafs.
Comment 2 Chris Reffett (RETIRED) gentoo-dev Security 2009-09-06 13:15:59 UTC
Same error using openafs-1.4.11 and e2fsprogs-libs 1.41.3-r1.
Comment 3 Chris Reffett (RETIRED) gentoo-dev Security 2009-09-06 13:25:01 UTC
Interestingly, the openafs-1.4.11 ebuild contains the lines:
# compile_et collides with com_err. Remove it from this package.
rm "${D}"/usr/bin/compile_et

...so why is the manpage being installed at all?
Comment 4 Chris Reffett (RETIRED) gentoo-dev Security 2009-09-06 14:20:57 UTC
Created attachment 203275 [details, diff]
patch to remove the conflicting compile_et manpage

Since the compile_et binary is already removed, this shouldn't cause any problems, and I successfully emerged openafs-1.4.11 on my box after I made this change.
Comment 5 Eliana 2010-02-02 16:27:28 UTC
The same error with 'net-fs/openafs-1.4.11' and 'sys-libs/e2fsprogs-libs-1.41.9'.
Using -doc (comment #1) worked.
Comment 6 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2010-06-21 23:08:03 UTC
openafs-1.4.12.1 has renamed things upstream
