In my make.conf, I have this line: EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS="--jobs=4" This causes emerge to build up to four packages in parallel (in addition to the effects of MAKEOPTS, which affects make). I have noticed that while revdep-rebuild does appear to pay attention to MAKEOPTS, it does NOT pay attention to EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS. As a result, some large rebuilds can take a lot longer than they could. This is not a duplicate of the other bug. The other bug refers to binary packages (--usepkgonly), while the bug I'm describing refers to the "--jobs" option. Rather than ignoring EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS entirely, it should filter out certain options that break things while including others that don't (like emerging multiple packages in parallel).

This is a duplicate. We purposely do not honor EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS because not to do so will break revdep-rebuild in unexpected ways. The way to use other emerge options is documented in the man page. If you don't like typing them in every time you run revdep-rebuild, then create a script or alias.
