The /etc/init.d/smartd daemon (part of sys-apps/smartmontools) can use /bin/mail (part of mail-client/mailx) to send email on changes in the SMART values of harddisks. I suggest to add a runtime dependency on mailx to smartmontools. It could be coupled to a useflag to reduce dependency-overhead. The problem is that the smartd daemon silently fails and doesn't send any warning emails. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
