Comment 4 Alli Quaknaa 2009-08-11 14:16:43 UTC
Hi,
I know very little about this matter, but the further I go looking into how it is probably intended to work (the whole CXX magic happening in the ebuild) the less I understand it and I'm not sure who's to blame here (matplotlib itself, the ebuild or pycxx).
The matplotlib ebuild erases matplotlib's own CXX directory and links /usr/share/python*/CXX in its place. It should be /usr/include/... actually, but even that would be weird when I realize that gcc is already looking there (because it is a standard include path), so why link it? Anyway, even if I make it see the CXX files (either by erasing the CXX dir or by erasing it and linking the system one in place), it doesn't help, because the files themselves are weird:
In Extensions.hxx I see #include "CXX/Python2/Config.hxx" which doesn't exist (there's no Python2 dir).
Please, take this with a grain of salt, because I'm maybe really off here, just wanted to share a bit of what I've found.

see this bug #280732 It should be fixed if you reemerge pycxx after syncing the tree

Confirmed, but could you please revbump pycxx and set matplotlib depending on the revbumped version...
Comment 7 Alli Quaknaa 2009-08-13 08:12:42 UTC
Confirmed, thanks :)
Comment 8 Andreas Klauer 2009-08-16 08:29:08 UTC
thanks for this bug report, emerge -1 pycxx fixed the issue for me
Comment 9 Sébastien Fabbro (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-08-18 16:50:54 UTC
OK, considering as a duplicate then.
Thanks.
