Developer's site http://www.lprng.com/ reports version LPRng-3.8.33 available since 17 Mar 2009, but in the portage tree there are no packages available beyond net-print/lprng-3.8.28, released in Jul 23rd 2004, not even in ~x86. Missing features and fixes include (http://www.lprng.com/LPRng-CHANGES):
1) kerberos 5 method;
2) file locking strategy modified, due to dealing with problems of HUGE incoming jobs that would cause all the LPD/LPRM/... facilities to lock;
3) job forwarding/redirection to queue causes queue not start printing, multiple copies to print just one copy;
4) under some circumstances job may unexpectedly die.
