After an emerge --sync I have been updating my system. A few packages will not compile gcc-4.3.2-r3 being one of them. I have looked at the bug list and the various fixes I have found don't seem to help (of course I could be doing some thing wrong). I have tried compiling sys-libs/glibc-2.8_p20080602-r1 separately but that also fails. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.emerge gcc 2. 3. Actual Results: echo '[c]' >> tmp-gi.list echo '/var/tmp/portage/sys-devel/gcc-4.3.2-r3/work/gcc-4.3.2/gcc/c-lang.c' >> tmp-gi.list echo '/var/tmp/portage/sys-devel/gcc-4.3.2-r3/work/gcc-4.3.2/gcc/c-tree.h' >> tmp-gi.list echo '/var/tmp/portage/sys-devel/gcc-4.3.2-r3/work/gcc-4.3.2/gcc/c-decl.c' >> tmp-gi.list echo '/var/tmp/portage/sys-devel/gcc-4.3.2-r3/work/gcc-4.3.2/gcc/c-common.c' >> tmp-gi.list echo '/var/tmp/portage/sys-devel/gcc-4.3.2-r3/work/gcc-4.3.2/gcc/c-common.h' >> tmp-gi.list echo '/var/tmp/portage/sys-devel/gcc-4.3.2-r3/work/gcc-4.3.2/gcc/c-pragma.h' >> tmp-gi.list echo '/var/tmp/portage/sys-devel/gcc-4.3.2-r3/work/gcc-4.3.2/gcc/c-pragma.c' >> tmp-gi.list echo '/var/tmp/portage/sys-devel/gcc-4.3.2-r3/work/gcc-4.3.2/gcc/c-objc-common.c' >> tmp-gi.list echo '/var/tmp/portage/sys-devel/gcc-4.3.2-r3/work/gcc-4.3.2/gcc/c-parser.c' >> tmp-gi.list /bin/sh /var/tmp/portage/sys-devel/gcc-4.3.2-r3/work/gcc-4.3.2/gcc/../move-if-change tmp-gi.list gtyp-input.list echo timestamp > s-gtyp-input build/gengtype /var/tmp/portage/sys-devel/gcc-4.3.2-r3/work/gcc-4.3.2/gcc gtyp-input.list make[3]: *** [s-gtype] Illegal instruction make[3]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/sys-devel/gcc-4.3.2-r3/work/build/gcc' make[2]: *** [all-stage2-gcc] Error 2 make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/sys-devel/gcc-4.3.2-r3/work/build' make[1]: *** [stage2-bubble] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/sys-devel/gcc-4.3.2-r3/work/build' make: *** [bootstrap-lean] Error 2 * * ERROR: sys-devel/gcc-4.3.2-r3 failed. * Call stack: * ebuild.sh, line 48: Called src_compile * environment, line 4751: Called toolchain_src_compile * environment, line 5272: Called gcc_src_compile * environment, line 3045: Called gcc_do_make * environment, line 2836: Called die * The specific snippet of code: * emake LDFLAGS="${LDFLAGS}" STAGE1_CFLAGS="${STAGE1_CFLAGS}" LIBPATH="${LIBPATH}" BOOT_CFLAGS="${BOOT_CFLAGS}" ${GCC_MAKE_TARGET} || die "emake failed with ${GCC_MAKE_TARGET}"; As per bug 256444, INVALID. For this processor, 'c3' seems to be the correct value.
