Description Vítor Brandão (noisebleed) 2009-05-20 13:38:09 UTC
I did a new Gentoo install and (for the first time) I had trouble putting X to work. The new xorg-server version available is >1.5, but the "X"'s manual does not reflect the new behavior of this package. The link for the upgrade, which explains the new behavior, appears only in the last line and is not sufficiently highlighted.

I suggest: or the manual should be updated to reflect the new behavior or the upgrade link should be more prominent.

My particular problem was related with the automatic detection of the mouse and keyboard by hal (while using hal and evdev). Without keyboard and mouse support, I couldn't kill X or switch to terminal so I had to switch off the computer.

Reproducible: Always

Installed packages:
* x11-base/xorg-server-1.5.3-r5
* sys-apps/hal-0.5.11-r8
* sys-apps/dbus-1.2.3-r1
* x11-drivers/xf86-input-evdev
