Description Sven Jacobs 2002-05-12 13:29:09 UTC
This is a real serious problem, it happened to me the third time now! It happens
infrequently.
Sometimes when shutting down KDE, the whole computer freezes (black screen, no
reaction to any keyboard event). When I reset my computer, reboot it and log in
again in KDE all my personal desktop and program settings are GONE. It seems
that all files which were opened during the crash have been corrupted. It once
happened in kdm and all kdm settings were gone...
I first thought this would be a ReiserFS issue and reinstalled my whole system
on XFS but now it happened again :( Could be an KDE or XFree86 issue?!

Start kde from command line

i think this bugzilla is for reporting issues with gentoo, not with kde (this
sounds like a kde bug) ...
although if it is with the kernel i can see this being a gentoo bug report.
try using a stock 2.4.18-pre8 kernel and see if you get same hanging. if you
do, then kde is probably your problem, and thus not really supposed to be
tracked here ;)
if its the kernel, then post a new bug to the kernel bug tracking for gentoo-r5

NOthing we (gentoo kde team) can solve imho... Try a different kernel, and see if the problem persists... If it does, file a bug against our kernel. Sorry, closing..
