As 2.6.3 (current latest and stable) is very buggy please consider to get 2.7.0 in the tree (and stable) ASAP.

I know, but I've been on vacation for the past 2 weeks...

Did you actually try it? Did you bump the ebuild locally? Are you using the x11 overlay?

If the answer is "no" to all of those questions, then please actually try it first.

And if it doesn't work, please file bugs into FreeDesktop's bugzilla.

Thanks

Works.

Did you actually try it? --> yes
Did you bump the ebuild locally? --> yes
Are you using the x11 overlay? --> no

Rename to xf86-video-intel-2.7.0.ebuild, remove PATCHES
Unmask x11-libs/libdrm-2.4.6

Ok, only a raw test;-) Problem with 2.6.3 on this machine is that the second monitor are detetcted as TV-1 (VGA-monitor), with 2.7.0 correct as VGA-1.

Hint: Add a BIG remark or check for CONFIG_X86_PAT, see
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg/2009-April/045117.html
--> "A significant known issue"

or the machine locks hard.

Only black screen (a.k.a. 2.6.1) can be worse than 2.6.3 trying is trivial this time.

I think I'll put 2.7.0 in portage along with xorg-server 1.6. It's about time we get closer to the latest upstream releases across the entire stack.

When do you think this will happen? Doesn't 2.7.0 work with Xorg 1.5 that we have to wait for Xorg 1.6?
Comment 8 Rémi Cardona (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-05-05 07:51:26 UTC
2.7.0 is in portage with a p.mask for the following reasons :
 - upstream is getting ready for a 2.7.1 release
 - the "old" DRI1, EXA, XAA, non-GEM code paths are seriously broken on some chips because they've lacked proper testing.

In the end, I might remove the mask when 2.7.1 hits portage, or I might keep it until xorg-server 1.6 hits portage. Time will tell...

Thanks
