Description Johannes Swoboda 2009-04-05 12:30:32 UTC
NOTE: I just started filing bugs, so please give me feedback on my bugfiling behaviour. thanks.

X refuses to start reporting a problem with the synapsis driver.
It is stated that the synapsis driver didn't find a core pointer;
see abstract of the log below. full log attached.

This problem doesn't occur with sys-kernel/gentoo-sources linux-2.6.27-gentoo-r8
The kernel offers two modules concerning Apple touchpads: the "Apple Touchpad Support" and the "Apple USB BCM5974 Multitouchpad support". (I've got an Apple MacBook Pro Peyron.) After some investigations, I found out that I needed the last one, so I recompiled the 2.6.29 with the second one only, but the problem stays.

No core pointer

Fatal server error:
failed to initialize core devices

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.start gentoo with the 2.6.29 kernel
2.watch X not to start
3.reproduce error with startx possible

Actual Results:
the touchpad isn't initialized, so X doesn't start.

Expected Results:
X should start

Looks like another 2.6.29 regression...
Comment 3 Johannes Swoboda 2009-04-05 17:30:30 UTC
bug is solved by the 2.6.29r1.
