according to the project home page for bsd-games "www.advogato.org/proj/bsd-games" "banner" is included in package by the bsd-games developers, but does not appear to be in the gentoo ebuild version 2.13.where Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
after further study, I realized that what I have reported is known, accordingly I lowered the priority on it myself. I may be the last person with a working dot matrix panasonic printer with continuous feed paper, but the slackware (yes, thats where I first noticed banner) distro installs it no problem. there really isnt another utility that you can run under linux that will print the banner sideways (and let you specify character height as I recall) and it doesnt have a limit as to the number of characters it will print. It was a great util for making long "Happy Birthday" banners and such for office parties or church functions. I know the name conflicts slightly with the other banner program for gentoo, but unless someone is using that banner to make automatic print header pages (something probably better done in cups anyway) I dont see a real use for the horizontal banner util. bring back the vertical banner util. if someone needs it, I will be happy to post the slackware .tgz bsd-package
well, bsd-games installs into /usr/games/bin by default, so i went ahead and added banner back into the games list ... pretty neat app :)
