Trying to install on a P120 (586 without mmx), following the install guide and using: 
x86-1.4-20030803-cd1.iso and the there included stage3-tarball,  
'chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash' fails with 'Illegal instruction ' 
 
other people have the same problem:

It must be a problem with the stage-tarball since booting with an old livecd (1.4-rc2-i586-grp.iso) 
gives the same error on chroot.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.follow install guide of 1.4 Final for a GRP install 
2.chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash 
3.error occurs 
Actual Results:  
error displayed: "Illegal instruction" 

Expected Results:  
chrooted into the extracted stage3

Bug #26079 is a duplicate of this bug.

avenj has made new tarballs and GRP-packages. 
The isos timestamped 20030807 include the fixed tarballs and GRP. 
The problem seems solved.

This bug is a duplicate of bug #26079 and has been resolved as described there. Two fewer blockers! :D
