Firefox 3 has been out plenty long enough, so I have masked Firefox 2 because I don't want to downgrade anymore. This bug prevents me from running python-updater, even if I unmask the bleeding-edge ebuilds for totem et al. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: [kqcg069][03:24:14 PM] python-updater * Starting Python Updater from 2.4 to 2.5 : * Adding to list: =media-libs/lcms-1.17 * Adding to list: =app-office/dia-0.96.1-r1 * Adding to list: =dev-libs/boost-1.34.1-r2 * Adding to list: =dev-libs/beecrypt-4.1.2-r1 * Adding to list: =dev-python/pyorbit-2.14.3 * Adding to list: =dev-python/numpy-1.0.4-r2 * Adding to list: =gnome-extra/deskbar-applet-2.22.3.1 * Adding to list: =app-pda/pilot-link-0.11.8 * Adding to list: =net-analyzer/scapy-1.1.1-r1 These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies... done! !!! All ebuilds that could satisfy "=www-client/mozilla-firefox-2*" have been masked. !!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request: - www-client/mozilla-firefox-2.0.0.19 (masked by: package.mask) For more information, see the MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook. (dependency required by "media-video/totem-2.22.2-r1" [ebuild]) (dependency required by "dev-python/gnome-python-desktop-2.22.0" [ebuild]) (dependency required by "gnome-extra/deskbar-applet-2.22.3.1" [ebuild]) (dependency required by "=gnome-extra/deskbar-applet-2.22.3.1" [argument]) Actual Results: failed dependency Expected Results: Shouldn't care which version of firefox. By the way, I don't even use gnome, let alone totem and deskbar-applet, but I love using meld, and it won't run right now. It has a ridiculously deep dependency tree, which includes totem etc. I would prefer to have just a nice graphical diff tool without having to pull in all of gnome to make it work. Maybe should write another bug about that... yes they should, those packages are still depending on xulrunner 1.8 or ff 2.0 and if they could depend on xulrunner 1.9 they would have a -r10 ebuild. Those ebuild will eventually be stable someday, just be patient and wait for gnome 2.24 stabilization requests.
