Currently portage offers 1.2.2 so far, in bugzilla there is a 1.2.8 ebuild available. Probably time to provide something more recent.

version bump to 2.1.8 (08 Jul 2009):
"This version has all of the features that will be in the 2.2.0 stable release. Since no new features will be added, all future code for this release will be bug fixes."

come on, people, wake up - all versions of this package in portage currently are Obsolete and Masked, there are MANs with proper authentication, you know... or, please, add to masking comment that net-wireless/wpa_supplicant may be used as an alternative for _both_ wired and wireless networks.
