Description Doug Glenn 2003-08-05 04:58:00 UTC
Fails during step 13 of Gentoo installation
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-x86-install.xml.

emerge -u system returns:
!!!Error: the <dev-perl/ExtUtils-MakeMaker-6.05-r6 package conflicts with this
package and both can't be installed on the same system together.

I believe I can work around the issue and finish up, but it will stump a total
newcomer.

FYI

we need to make a note about cleaning up perl ...

seems many people dont understand the concept of a blocker

These are one-time events. Explaining blocker might be a solution, but then in the FAQ. But then again, users don't read the FAQ (or so it seems). The problem now has almost disappeared, so I'm marking this as WONTFIX. I'm sure in the future a better possibility might exist (portage automatically handling blockers or whatever).
