Fresh install.
I emerged samba-3.0.0-rc3-r1, edited /etc/samba/smb.conf and typed:

/etc/init.d/samba start

and I got:

could not get dependancy info for "samba"
could not get dependancy info for "samba"


Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge samba-3.0.0-rc1-r1
2. type /etc/init.d/samba start

Actual Results:  
could not get dependancy info for "samba"
could not get dependancy info for "samba"

Expected Results:  
Samba should start

I'm running a fresh install ( built yesterday ).

Portage 2.0.48-r5 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.2.3, glibc-2.3.2-r1)

run `depscan.sh` or reboot ... 
either way it doesnt matter, samba started just fine
