Description Ferris McCormick (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-01-26 18:38:59 UTC
As you know, the Foundation will be opening nominations for two trustee positions on 1 February. For legal and for practical reasons, we need a way to officially send notices and announcements to exactly the members of the Foundation.

After discussing this among ourselves and reviewing feedback from the Gentoo community, we believe that the most practical way to achieve this is to establish a moderated (or restricted postings) mailing list distributed to the members, and that the members should be force-subscribed to this list. This will be an extremely low volume list, but having it is a legal requirement. Everyone who has responded believes that foundation-announce@gentoo.org is the best name for the list (because that describes just what it is for).

Whether it is moderated or restricted posting, the following members should always be able to post to the list (and should be the moderators if moderated). All of these are @gentoo.org.

neddyseagoon, dmwaters, tsunam, fmccor, quantumsummers

We will provide a list of emails to be subscribed to the list later this week after we verify the email addresses as best we can and announce our intentions on gentoo-announce and gentoo-nfp.

After thinking about it, I think I prefer Donnie's suggestion that the list be moderated, but that is not my decision alone. Others may take exception.

For now, I am probably the best contact for questions, but as soon as we have our list, that will pass to quantumsummers.

Thanks,
Ferris

This list is only for legally required communications from the Gentoo Foundation Inc to its members. It is not a discussion list, discussions will be on -nfp. All posts to foundation-announce will be on behalf of the foundation.

Moderation will do no harm but there should not be any posts to moderate.

robbat2,

How would you like to proceed with this? I will begin testing the non-dev member emails & compile a list of those that are good/bad. Then shall I lass it along to you?
