After updating my System (emerge -auDNv world system) nearly everything was working correctly except the new KDE's system tray. The interesting thing about it is that the system tray is working correctly with the root user. With 4.1 and 4.2.0 my system tray see icons. I update to KDE 4.2.3 and now I have no icon visible in system tray. I see a mailing report exactly like I see. http://linux.derkeiler.com/Mailing-Lists/KDE/2009-03/msg00225.html
Do you still have issues with 4.2.4 / 4.3?
