Description Chris Brennan 2009-01-22 16:01:14 UTC
currently running fluxbox w/ some gnome libs floating around. Decided to emerge the full gnome env. w/ the metatag 'gnome'. Set up my flags and sent it running over night while I slept, when I woke up, I saw that collision-protect flagged sys-power/pm-utils and sys-power/powermgmt-base and stopped the emerge.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge gnome

Actual Results:
>>> Installing sys-power/powermgmt-base-1.22
 * This package will overwrite one or more files that may belong to other
 * packages (see list below). You can use a command such as `portageq
 * owners / <filename>` to identify the installed package that owns a
 * file. If portageq reports that only one package owns a file then do
 * NOT file a bug report. A bug report is only useful if it identifies at
 * least two or more packages that are known to install the same file(s).
 * If a collision occurs and you can not explain where the file came from
 * then you should simply ignore the collision since there is not enough
 * information to determine if a real problem exists. Please do NOT file
 * a bug report at http://bugs.gentoo.org unless you report exactly which
 * two packages install the same file(s). Once again, please do NOT file
 * a bug report unless you have completely understood the above message.
 *
 * Detected file collision(s):
 *
 * 	/usr/bin/on_ac_power
 * 	/usr/share/man/man1/on_ac_power.1.bz2
 *
 * Searching all installed packages for file collisions...
 *
 * Press Ctrl-C to Stop
 *
 * sys-power/pm-utils-0.99.4
 * 	/usr/bin/on_ac_power
 * 	/usr/share/man/man1/on_ac_power.1.bz2
 *
 * Package 'sys-power/powermgmt-base-1.22' NOT merged due to file
 * collisions. If necessary, refer to your elog messages for the whole
 * content of the above message.

>>> Failed to install sys-power/powermgmt-base-1.22, Log file:

-------

BlackDragon ~ # portageq owners  / /usr/bin/on_ac_power /usr/share/man/man1/on_ac_power.1.bz2
sys-power/pm-utils-0.99.4
	/usr/bin/on_ac_power
	/usr/share/man/man1/on_ac_power.1.bz2
BlackDragon ~ #

Expected Results:
Expected portage to resolve this issue.

1) Skip the merging of sys-power/powermgmt-base and leave sys-power/pm-utils
2) unmerge sys-power/pm-utils and merge sys-power/powermgmt-base

This is not a duplicate of bug 255249 (which addresses a block between the packages) but a duplicate of bug 240720 (which indeed addresses the file collision)
