Your wget is broken or your ISP has a weird proxy in the way. I can retrieve the file fine. $ wget http://jaist.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/wine/wine_gecko-0.1.0.cab --2009-01-10 23:43:21-- http://jaist.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/wine/wine_gecko-0.1.0.cab Resolving jaist.dl.sourceforge.net... 150.65.7.130 Connecting to jaist.dl.sourceforge.net|150.65.7.130|:80... connected. HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK Length: 5746895 (5.5M) [application/vnd.ms-cab-compressed] Saving to: `wine_gecko-0.1.0.cab' 100%[=====================================>] 5,746,895 176K/s in 53s 2009-01-10 23:44:14 (105 KB/s) - `wine_gecko-0.1.0.cab' saved [5746895/5746895] For debugging it, I suggest you first trace if it's your ISP or wget. Use some other program to try a download. curl, busybox (wget or fetch), telnet or anything else. If those fail as well, then your ISP might be to blame (or you have something messing with networking). If you're still stuck on this, capture a tcpdump dump while running: wget http://distfiles.gentoo.org/distfiles/nam-1.11.patch
