Have you used crossdev? Is there maybe an old crossdev toolchain lying around and confusing revdep-rebuild

This is just like bug 238236. The problem is the multislot USE flag.

You have gcc-4.3.2 insead of gcc-4.1.2, so the directory is different.

You need to use the revdep-rebuild -i option so that it deletes the cached results from the previous run.

I suspect that you may have created a bogus entry in /var/db/pkg/sys-devel/gcc-4.1.2/. Is it a directory and does it contain a CONTENTS file? If there is no CONTENTS file then it is useless and you should simply remove it.

(In reply to comment #10)
> the error doesn't disappear

That's odd. It seems like the corrupt SLOT value should be coming from /var/db/pkg/sys-devel/gcc-4.3.2*/SLOT. Is gcc-4.3.2-r2 the only gcc-4.3.2* version you have in there, or are there more than one? Please post the output of this command:

  ls -lR /var/db/pkg/sys-devel/gcc-*

It appears that /var/db/pkg/sys-devel/gcc-4.1.2 is an empty file, so you should simply remove it.

/var/db/pkg/sys-devel/gcc-4.3.2-r2/SLOT is 24 bytes, so it seems to contain a lot more than just "4.3" like it's supposed to. This should correct it:

echo 4.3 > /var/db/pkg/sys-devel/gcc-4.3.2-r2/SLOT
touch /var/db/pkg/sys-devel/gcc-4.3.2-r2

Calculating dependencies... done!

emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "sys-devel/gcc:i486-pc-linux-gnu-4.3.2".

You need to use the revdep-rebuild -i option. If you do that, and /var/db/pkg/sys-devel/gcc-4.3.2-r2/SLOT contains 4.3, it should work fine.

One thing that's odd is that you claimed to have fixed the slot in comment #8, yet in comment #13 the file size (24 bytes) seemed to contradict this. If you still can't get it to work, please post the content of '/pkg/sys-devel/gcc-4.3.2-r2/SLOT'.
