ofc, i could be doing something terribly wrong, but i'm not cross compiling, so... 
 
my make.conf is attached, as is the output from "emerge mod_php"

This should solve the problem:

$ emerge unmerge mod_php
$ revdep-rebuild
$ emerge -u --deep mod_php
