compiling x11-misc/notification-daemon-0.4.0 fails with this error during ./configure: -- start -- checking for NOTIFICATION_CAPPLET... configure: error: Package requirements (glib-2.0 >= 2.10.0 gtk+-2.0 >= 2.10.0 libglade-2.0 gconf-2.0 libnotify dbus-1 dbus-glib-1) were not met: No package 'libnotify' found -- end -- indeed, libnotify is not yet installed on the system. # emerge -pq1 libnotify [ ebuild N ] x11-libs/libnotify-0.4.5 this seems like a simple case of the libnotify dependency omitted from the ebuild.
if i try to emerge libnotify, it wants to install notification-daemon before libnotify, which would fail due to the unsatisfied dependency on libnotify itself.
I can confirm that I have the same issue. emerging libnotify with the --nodeps option seems to have worked around the issue

I had the same problem as original reporter. As per suggestion in comment #3: emerge --nodeps libnotify worked. Further, attempting to compile libnotify without the --nodeps option causeed both notification-daemon and libnotify to be compiled. Apparently a circular dependency. Note that we all seem to have the USE="gnome" flag turned off. I normally don't install gnome anymore. However, my mother prefers the gnome version of mahjongg. Since this is part of gnome-games, all of gnome-base is apparently a dependency for gnome-games which is where libnotify and notification-daemon are being pulled in. Of course, I'm not a programmer and I'm just pulling straws out of the wind. However, the --nodeps thing worked and I'm now past this problem.
