While gnome 2.24.x supports this feature in other distros, it doesn't seem to be enabled in gentoo. Fedora and Ubuntu for example have all partitions listed within nautilus, and mount them on demand (using policykit for authentication). Gentoo only has static mounted (from fstab) and removablke media.
