I am one of the Aleph One developers.

Using system Expat will break at least one major scenario, Rubicon X, that uses MacRoman characters in its XML configuration files without specifying it in the XML header.

I have applied the patch from 280615 to our SVN (r4176) for inclusion in 0.23.2. Please restore our Expat. I must say I am surprised at such a bizarre notion, that the use of a customized library internally is somehow a bug.
