As Firefox 3 should go stable soon (EOL for 2.0) the stable version of seahorse should not depend any longer on Firefox 2.x. I thought there is an Ubuntu patch for compiling against Firefox 3. If not please consider making seahorse-2.24 stable asap. Reproducible: Always
where is the tracker bug for this ? FYI, I don't consider FF2 EOL as something that should change anything for our ebuilds. Versions compatible with FF3 or xulrunner-1.9 are available in tree when possible. If there is none for a package, then is probably a good reason for it, just keep xulrunner 1.8 or FF2 until they get treecleaned or until there is a new ebuild using FF3/xulrunner 1.9 for this package.
From mid-december there will be no security fixes for FF 2.0/xulrunner 1.8 anymore. I think stable gentoo should have no security holes, so FF3 should go stable soon. As FF has no slots (I think it is not slotable) others ebuilds should not depend on an soon outdated version of it. As seahorse is about security it should not depend on an insecure non-fixed component like FF2 will be in the near future. I think the dependency problem will be fixed in GNOME 2.24. If this is going stable soon, this bug could be closed.
ff is indeed not slotted but that's not really a problem by itself. Until there is effectively a problem with FF2 I don't see the point of trying to push a not even in tree, not ready for stable ebuild. Thanks for understanding.
The dependency on FF2 blocks the stabilization of FF3!
It doesn't really block anything. USE=xulrunner and solved. I believe the intention was for that to be made a desktop profile enabled USE flag around the time of Fx3 stabilization.
Not a problem in >=2.24
later is not correct anymore
closing since 2.24 is on its way to stable or stable depending on your arch.
