I'm reporting this bug because the package in summary fails to build when forcing --as-needed on through spec files (check out for details).

Committed updated ebuild and patch, but I can't exactly test it due to my current setup.

I'll leave the bug open until it is properly tested.

successful tested on my amd64 desktop.
upstream was also informed about this issue.
so i'll close this bug.
