app-games/liquidwar 5.5.9 segfaults when I move the mouse a little, but only on the menu. Allegro then spits out errors. Like so: Shutting down Allegro due to signal #11 Segmentation fault This doesn't happen every time, but it does most times. I am attaching the final 2000 bytes of an strace. The full strace is 3.8 MB, if you really want it, let me know. Now, for the emerge info that always gets torn up: Portage 2.0.48-r1 (default-1.0, gcc-3.2.3, glibc-2.2.5-r2,2.2.5-r8) ================================================================= System uname: 2.4.20-crazyCFLAGS i686 AMD Athlon(TM) XP 1800+ GENTOO_MIRRORS="rsync://csociety-ftp.ecn.purdue.edu/pub/gentoo/ ftp://ftp.ussg.iu. edu/pub/linux/gentoo ftp://csociety-ftp.ecn.purdue.edu/pub/gentoo/" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /var/qmail/control /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/c onfig /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/3.1/share/config /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d" PORTDIR="/home/portage" DISTDIR="/home/portage/distfiles" PKGDIR="/home/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/home/portage/tmp" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="" USE="x86 oss apm avi crypt cups jpeg libg++ mikmod mpeg ncurses quicktime spell xm l2 xv aalib berkdb bonobo directfb esd gdbm ggi gif gnome-libs gtkhtml guile imlib java ldap libwww motif mozilla nls opengl pam png python qt readline scanner sdl slang ssl svga tcltk tcpd tetex tiff X gtk gtk2 gpm gnome -alsa -arts 3dnow cdr en code kde mmx oggvorbis pdflib perl sse truetype xmms ipv6" COMPILER="" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=athlon-mp -O3 -pipe -fexpensive-optimizations -fomit-frame-pointer -D__SMP__ -mmmx -msse -m3dnow -mfpmath=sse,387" ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" MAKEOPTS="-j3" AUTOCLEAN="yes" SYNC="rsync://rsync10.us.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" FEATURES="sandbox ccache"

I also just noticed that it usually is left killable only by -9.
try it again but emerge liquidwar with CFLAGS=-pipe and CXXFLAGS=-pipe ... if it still dies, try re-emerging allegro with same flags as above
Okay. I used only -pipe on liquidwar , same problem. I then used only -pipe on allegro , same problem. Anything else I can do to assist?
Still no luck on this? I have: Portage 2.0.48-r5 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.2.3, glibc-2.3.2-r1) CFLAGS="-mcpu=i686 -O3 -pipe" on System uname: 2.4.20-gentoo-r5 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) processor And it worked for me with no problems. If you're still having problems I really suspect the CFLAGS you're using - maybe on one of the other depending libraries.
Yes, still problems. Could be CFLAGS On a depensancy, which would be tedious to track down. Thanks for the help :)
well think you could try running it through gdb and see if you can clean useful info from that ?
Without more information we CANTFIX this. Joe, or anyone else who experiences this...go ahead and re-open if more information becomes available. Thanks.
could you try re-emerging allegro now ? i fixed some compile options that were causing segfaults for other users of allegro ...
err since rsync has been messed up make sure that the allegro you merge has a 'sed' cmd in the src_unpack ... if it doesnt, you'll have to wait until rsync comes back up
A week later... Joe were you able to try out the latest version of allegro or shall I go ahead and close this bug again?
Reinstalled Allegro, reinstalled liquidwar, same problems. Installing mouse (driver="X-Windows mouse") - success! Installing sound (digi="Open Sound System", midi="No sound") - success! Installing joystick (driver="No joystick") - success! Setting up network - success! Allocating 16 Mb - success! Loading data from "/usr/share/games/liquidwar/liquidwar.dat" - success! Loading fonts - success! Loading maps - success! Loading background bitmap - success! Loading sound fx - success! Loading textures - success! Loading water sounds - success! Loading midi music - success! Loading custom textures from "/usr/share/games/liquidwar/texture" ++++ - success! Loading custom maps from "/usr/share/games/liquidwar/map" +++ - success! Loading custom musics from "/usr/share/games/liquidwar/music" + - success! Changing video mode to 1024x768, windowed (driver="X11 window") - success! Aborted Then I need to SIGKILL it.
Joe - could you try running liquidwar with the development version of allegro? That's 4.1.11.
Need user input to proceed.
reopening...
...so I can close with WORKSFORME.
