Description Carlos Konstanski 2008-11-15 21:24:08 UTC
A snippet of the hostap-driver build, which shows it dying because it looks for deprecated kernel configs:

Here is my story:

I had kernel 2.6.11 and hostap-driver-0.3.7 installed on a server, everything is working fine. I upgraded the server and rebuilt 2.6.11, and found that hostap-driver-0.3.7 could not be rebuilt, I assume because it is no longer in the portage tree. This seems a little strange, I thought that the old (working fine for me) version would be held locally on this machine but it is possible I accidentally deleted the sources for it. (I mean, how could module-rebuild possibly work if older versions are constantly being removed? It must be that I deleted something here.)

Anyway, now I'm six hours later and I've rebuilt the latest kernel sources, and I'm having the same problem with hostap-driver as described here.

I found this post on the hostap mailing list in case this helps... It will help me as I'm now using kernel 2.6.25.

Host AP driver is now included in the kernel source tree and the
external version does not support (and is not needed anyway) the latest
2.6 kernel releases. In other words, you will need to use the version
included in the 2.6.20 kernel.

Maybe we should treeclean this as people needs to use kernel drivers instead of this old one :-/
