`emerge --help --verbose' doesn't list all options that are documented in the man page. Those are missing:

--sync (this surprises me a bit)
--config-root=DIR
--ignore-default-opts (short option for this would be nice)

Also you might want to add --verbose here:

Usage:
...
   emerge --help [ system | world | --sync ]
<change to>
   emerge --help [ system | world | --verbose | --sync ]
