Durring installation on K6-2 500 MHz from stage1-x86-1.4_rc4.tar.bz2.

emerge sync -> Completes with a message recommending to update Portage
emerge portage -> quites with the following error

configure: error: C++ preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check
