Description Jaak Ristioja 2008-10-20 06:10:39 UTC
When first starting an OOo app (oowriter, oocalc, probably others) by either using the terminal or clicking on its icon in the K menu under KDE (version 3.5.10) or trying to open a .odt file under konqueror, it creates an soffice.bin process with 4 forks, displays the splash screen, but after that no application window is opened, while the processes remain running and idle. Only after repeating the action to start OOo, another fork is made and the respective main window is opened. This can become really annoying.

Is this with the source-based version? One thing you could try is to do a clean user install, you would have to remove .ooo-2.0 and .ooo3 for that to happen (or copy it away in a safe place)

Yes, app-office/openoffice-3.0.0 is the source based version of it, I presume, as it took about seven and a half hours to compile.

Removing .ooo2 and .ooo3 from ~ didn't prevent the bug from reoccuring.
Comment 3 Rafael 2008-10-23 16:35:58 UTC
I am having a similar problem. Here I'm using app-office/openoffice-bin-3.0.0 and the problem happens if I execute ooffice from the command line. When I launch openoffice from the xfce menu it works well. When I launch it from the command line it freezes when it tries to open some files. It happens either if I pass the file name in the command line or if I open it using the file menu or from the dialog shown when ooffice is launched without arguments.

oocalc crash output

I have somewhat similar results here.
- opening a .ods file directly from krusader or from console "oocalc file.ods" results in dead window and I have to pkill -9 soffice.bin
- opening oocalc from K menu and then opening a file works
- opening oocalc from command line and then opening a file freezes it similarly to the first case

attaching a command line output of the last case freeze
Comment 5 Max Bidlingmaier 2009-06-16 10:42:47 UTC
same problem here with app-office/openoffice-bin-3.1.0
- starting ooffice works
- starting oowriter (or ooffice -writer) hangs
- click a document within krusader, konqueror etc hangs

oowriter could be excahnged by oocalc, ooimpres etc.

Today i got something like this... my OpenOffice try to open a Document and freeze. But after researching a while, i found the origin. Here, it was Cups with a "endless Time out".

In /var/log/cups/error.log i found:
"IP lookup failed - connection from localhost closed!"

Its an Error that looks like cups don't create "/var/run/cups/cups.sock". Aftern an Update to 1.3.10, i got the Line "Listen /var/run/cups/cups.sock" in my cupsd.conf and "ServerName /var/run/cups/cups.sock" in my client.conf. But that way it won't work.. maybe it don't create this cups.sock-file or this configuration is not compatible with "ServerName localhost" or "Listen 127.0.0.1".

I solved this with comment out the Lines with /var/run/cups/cups.sock.
You can also check it quick, if you just stop cupsd

# /etc/init.d/cupsd stop

Does anyone here still get this with 3.1.1?
