Isn't it a good idea to provide a openldap-client ebuild which only compiles the openldap libraries? This way, not ervery workstation has to compile the slapd and slurpd daemons. The configure arguments for a "libraries only" openldap are listed in the "faq-o-matic" on the openldap site ( http://www.openldap.org/faq/data/cache/897.html ) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
how about the idea to split up (or use a USE flag) packages into server & client packages ?
I don't like the idea of adding a useflag for every option you want to pass on during compile time. There are 150 useflags in gentoo and I find managing them (even with ufed) difficult. There are just to manny use flags IMHO. That is why i requested a separate ebuild just for the client. (I think my useflag problem will be solved eventualy (per application use-settings for example, or a (debian like) settings menu before building)
