I modified gtk+-2.2.1.ebuild to incorporate the "Drop Shadow Effect for
GTK+-2.2.x Menu" patch. You may find more info regarding this patch here:

thanks for your submission, but we have decided not to put this patch in because underneath it is a pretty ugly hack. the gtk+ developers do not endorse this either and we're hesitant to support a patch that the developers will not add.

you have pretty ugly fonts btw, this is most likely because you use the TrueType Luxi fonts. Install the ttf-bitstream-vera pack and get latest stable fontconfig and it should look better.
