What package provides head? It certainly isn't from sys-apps/coreutils ...

Comment 4 Albert Zeyer 2008-09-15 14:37:28 UTC
Hm, I myself wonder a bit about this. I haven't really noticed that head is somehow wrong here...
Comment 5 Albert Zeyer 2008-09-15 14:40:28 UTC
Uh, I found the problem... Yes, and it is related to my case insensitive file system...

macbook ~ # equery b HEAD
[ Searching for file(s) HEAD in *... ]
dev-perl/libwww-perl-5.805 (/usr/bin/HEAD -> /usr/bin/lwp-request)

This is the head which got called.

After removing the /usr/bin/HEAD and making a new symlink to /bin/head, etc-update works again.
Comment 6 Jeroen Roovers (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-09-15 21:09:19 UTC
I suggest you stop opening new bug reports that pertain to your choice case insensitive filesystem and close all the bugs you currently have opened until such time that you can reproduce the bugs with a normal filesystem.
Comment 7 Albert Zeyer 2008-09-15 21:36:22 UTC
The bugs which are related to the case insensitive filesystem can not be reprocuded on a normal system (obviosly).

So, does that mean that such issues are not seen as bugs on Gentoo? That means, Gentoo just does not want to have support for case insensitive filesystems?

What about Gentoo on MacOSX? Should this project be dropped completly? Or are bugs on Gentoo on MacOSX (or other Gentoo/alt projects) just not important?
