Description Albert Zeyer 2008-09-12 13:02:08 UTC
Azureus openes OSS sound device and therefore blocks all sound applications (without reason). Even ALSA-applications do not work anymore while Azureus is running (when it was started first).

Comment 2 Albert Zeyer 2008-09-12 13:03:03 UTC
I am using Sun JDK 1.5.0.16 [sun-jdk-1.5].
Comment 3 Albert Zeyer 2008-09-12 13:07:37 UTC
I have searched a bit through the options and after I while, I found some options that I can play a sound on certain events. I have disabled though all these options. And I don't see any options to disable the sound at all or to select the sound interface (like ALSA or OSS).

I don't see this as a feature requests as it brokes somehow the functionality of my system and there is no way to avoid that.
Comment 4 Jeroen Roovers (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-09-13 16:34:38 UTC
I don't see a bug here at all - after all this is how azureus/java is apparently supposed to access a sound device. :)
Comment 5 Albert Zeyer 2008-09-13 16:54:40 UTC
For example, if /sbin/init is blocking your sound device (because it has the ability to play a sound; whereby it does not use that by default and you don't want that; and there is no way to disable that), would you consider that as a bug or as a feature? Or just a stupid application which you would replace by another?
Comment 6 Albert Zeyer 2008-09-13 17:04:53 UTC
I will patch (fix) Azureus anyway as soon as I get to that again. :)

There is nothing to be done here on the ebuild side, if you have a patch please reopen this bug after you have submitted it to the upstream bug tracker. Otherwise please open an issue in the upstream bug tracker after testing 3.1.1.0 to see if the issue exists in the latest version too.
