Here, distcc was enabled, but the same happens without. The emerge --info of the machine is:

Steps to Reproduce:
Comment 1 Tobias Leupold 2008-08-27 10:10:24 UTC
Same error with all versions of PAM in portage and after a complete system update (gcc-4.1.2, etc.).
Comment 2 Jens Abraham 2008-08-29 12:44:59 UTC
Same problem on my side with uclibc for the nslu2.
Comment 3 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-08-31 01:35:00 UTC
Okay there are a few NIS hard dependencies on it, I'm working on a patch for this as we speak.
Comment 4 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-08-31 11:44:23 UTC
Fixed with a patch on 1.0.2. Now it's time to send upstream.
Comment 5 Tobias Leupold 2008-08-31 12:42:15 UTC
sys-libs/pam-1.0.2 still fails with the same error -- where can I get the patch?
Comment 6 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-08-31 13:00:07 UTC
You should wait about an hour or two for the mirrors to sync up, then it should be available.
Comment 7 Hunter Nield 2008-10-02 01:17:00 UTC
I'm still getting the same error with pam-1.0.1 and pam-1.0.2.

Anyone else running into this issue?

It is making it a tough time installing sudo ;)
Comment 8 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-10-02 09:52:38 UTC
My uClibc chroot just went haywire, but I'm sure it worked fine after my patch on it; can you make sure the patch is being applied? Maybe it's picking up pam from an overlay.
Comment 9 Hunter Nield 2008-10-02 11:54:54 UTC
Pretty sure it is getting applied. Here's the start of the emerge.

I just ran into this problem with pam-1.0.1 and switched to pam-1.0.2 and it solved my problem.

Made no difference for me unfortunately.
