I'm not sure about the new policy with the cron packages; in any case, the file
/etc/crontab is installed both by baselayout (1.7.8-r1) and vcron package, which
should probably not be the case. ;^)

Yep yep, checkout gentoo-src.  It will be MIA with next baselayout release :)

Should there be any files in /etc/cron.daily,weekly, etc?  I have none.

Nope, only some packages adds files there (like sysklogd).  Anyhow, closing
this bug as it is fixed.
