Description Balazs Nemeth 2008-06-09 10:20:07 UTC
EVMS and LVM services starts before root filesystem mounted in read/write mode. Therefore they cannot create their pidfiles in /var/run because the root filesystem is mounted in read-only mode.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. add evms and lvm to boot runlevel
2. start your machine
3. see that LVM and EVMS prints out an error message about they cannot create pidfile.

Actual Results:
System boots up, but without the pidfile there could be such situations, where for example two evmsn process co-exist in the same time.

Expected Results:
EVMS/LVM should start after root filesystem is mounted in read/write mode.

I assume by LVM you mean sys-fs/lvm2 and by EVMS you mean sys-fs/evms. Please file separate bugs for each.
Comment 2 Jeroen Roovers (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-06-09 18:27:07 UTC
If you do choose to file separate bug reports for each, reopen and make this bug a tracker.

I think both service has the same issue.

Yes, I am using:
 =sys-fs/evms-2.5.5-r10
 =sys-fs/lvm2-2.02.28-r2

I compiled my kernel with "genkernel --menuconfig --evms --lvm all"

Now I am trying to get some log about these errors, but so far I got nothing except that I've seen on the terminal during the boot process.
Comment 4 Balazs Nemeth 2008-06-15 07:25:01 UTC
I had to reinstall my OpenVZ server because of network problems, so I'am not using openrc right now.
Is there anybody who also experienced these reported issues?

Maybe the same problem, but these are two packages have different maintainers, so you're asked to file a bug for each one.

Cloned the bug this time, please do as asked the next time.

Oh, I'm sorry I forget it. Thank you anyway.
