Description nick 2002-04-29 14:33:09 UTC
when I press the spacebar in abiword it exits with this error. As long as I
don't press spacebar, i can do whatever i want and it won't crash.

synnix@synfinity synnix $ abiword
/usr/bin/abiword: line 67: 22321 Aborted $ABISUITE_LIBEXEC/AbiWord_d "$@"

When spacebar is pressed, spell checking is run.

1) Which use flags did you compile abiword with ?
2) Which version of abiword are you referring to ?
3) Can you attach the build log to this bug ?
4) Does the same problem occur when switching locales ?
5) Is this a known bug from abiword's bug database ?

Try unmerging aspell. Someone mentioned that on gentoo-user. It looks like it
stopped my abiword from crashing due to spell check.

When Aspell is unmerged abiword doesn't crash.

With aspell present, I found that by turning auto-spellcheck off, abiword didn't
crash when space bar was pressed. But that if you tried to do a manual
spellcheck, it crashed. What must be happening is that when you press spacebar
it's running spellcheck for that word and that's why it crashes. Possibly it
isn't finding aspell in the right place?

Just confirmed that it has something to do with aspell, although I'm not sure
what. I removed aspell from the system and re-emerged abiword. This appears to
have fixed the bug. I would suggest making sure that abiword does _not_ use
aspell in the ebuild.

Newer abiword ebuilds depend explicitly on pspell.
