Description Bob Raitz 2008-05-26 10:56:04 UTC
Upon emerging shadow-4.1.2, I began getting this strange list of errors:configuration error - unknown item 'FAILLOG_ENAB' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'LASTLOG_ENAB' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'MAIL_CHECK_ENAB' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'OBSCURE_CHECKS_ENAB' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'PORTTIME_CHECKS_ENAB' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'QUOTAS_ENAB' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'MOTD_FILE' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'FTMP_FILE' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'NOLOGINS_FILE' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'ENV_HZ' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'PASS_MIN_LEN' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'SU_WHEEL_ONLY' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'CRACKLIB_DICTPATH' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'PASS_CHANGE_TRIES' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'PASS_ALWAYS_WARN' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'CHFN_AUTH' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'ENVIRON_FILE' (notify administrator)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge shadow-4.1.2
2. login
3. the above errors fly past, then the password prompt comes up.

Actual Results:
The above errors show up after I type in my user name. When this began, I looked at /var/log/portage/elog/sys-apps:shadow-4.1.2:20080526-082959.log. It contained the following:

WARN: postinst
Running 'grpck' returned errors. Please run it by hand, and then
run 'grpconv' afterwards! running grpck brings the following:configuration error - unknown item 'FAILLOG_ENAB' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'LASTLOG_ENAB' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'MAIL_CHECK_ENAB' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'OBSCURE_CHECKS_ENAB' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'PORTTIME_CHECKS_ENAB' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'QUOTAS_ENAB' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'MOTD_FILE' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'FTMP_FILE' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'NOLOGINS_FILE' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'ENV_HZ' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'PASS_MIN_LEN' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'SU_WHEEL_ONLY' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'CRACKLIB_DICTPATH' (notify administrator)

configuration error - unknown item 'PASS_ALWAYS_WARN' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'CHFN_AUTH' (notify administrator)
configuration error - unknown item 'ENVIRON_FILE' (notify administrator)
group users: no user games
delete member 'games'?

Once I noted that these errors were the same as those above, I downgraded to shadow-4.1.1 to see if the errors went away. They did

Expected Results:
I expected no errors

This happened on all my systems. Since I troubleshot it on this system, I will post its emerge --info:
