Description Steve Taunton 2008-05-09 19:14:48 UTC
I just downloaded the newest version for x86 to test before I try to compile / install in a lapto pI plan to get .. mtech D900C.
I booted the live ok but after I got to the desktop I was lost and didnt know the keyboard shortcuts to navigate the GUI as the logitech usb marble mouse wasnt loaded. I dont know what the command would be to load it to see if i like this distro. It looks very clean and nowhere near as much bloat as Mandriva. and I also wonder if its possible to either compile it in or skin it on... I also like the GUI from the game Uplink and would like a way to have it as my manager: instead of KDE. I think the code is in C++. at least thats what it looks like for the windows version.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. booted into live distro Gentoo 2008.0_beta2 LiveDVD
2. everything seemed to load up except it stated something about a MAC mouse
3. loaded up desktop and mouse icon was frozen in the center
4. tried un/re plugging the mouse in ... didnt detect

Actual Results:
icon for mouse was in center screen

Expected Results:
to have trhe mouse load to navigate desktop

current sys
AMD 2400+
1024 MB ram
no SATA drives

Same problem here - The 2008 beta 2 live CD detects my Microsoft, USB wheel mouse as a Mac mouse and it doesn't work. The 2008 beta 1 installer however works just fine - correct detection as MS wheel mouse and works fine.

I am having the same problem with my USB mouse and keyboard. The mouse is being detected as a Mac mouse as well. The mouse I am using is a Microsoft and the keyboard is a Zippy.

same problem here, neither my usb keyboard nor usb mouse work

Me too, new to Gentoo, tried the Beta '2008 Live' DVD and the 2007 release CD, both give the same problem

I'm not sure of the make/model but it appears in Windows as a standard 'HID' mouse and is optical with an input wheel.

During start-up it is identified as a 'Macintosh Mouse Button Emulation' (?)

As I'm pretty Noob'ish when it come the Linux I wouldn't know where to start to look for a solution. I was just disappointed as I wanted to enjoy Gentoo, but unlike all the other distro's I have been trying (openSUSE/Debian/Slax) which have worked straight out of the box , this one is sadly lacking.

Help!

I have problem not only with USB but with my old PS/2 mouse too. I have Gigabyte EP35C-DS3R motherboard & Radeon HD3870 if that info is useful. In gpm and X on qemu mouse works fine. I've enabled hid mouse in bios and still nothing.

This should be fixed in 2008.0, which is now released.
